Event Recap: Moon Day 2018

Moon Day honors previous space flight accomplishments and focuses on current and future activities in space exploration. The  annual STEM-focused event, held on July 21, 2018, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, served over 1,300 visitors.  The Dallas Section of SWE exhibited this year again. We had a blast!  Event attendees that visited our tables  had a “MARS-velous” time designing and building rovers and other vehicles that can be used for space exploration. They learned about how design impacts function and they let their creative juices flow using fun colors and decorations to personalize their vehicles. Thanks to some amazing SWE volunteers, the activity was a hit and the event was a success! Can’t wait until next year!

A Message from the Dallas SWE President

Dear Dallas SWE-sters,

On behalf of the Dallas SWE Executive Council, welcome to FY19! We are looking forward to another great year, with continued opportunities for professional development, social activities, outreach, and so much more. On Saturday, July 14th, the FY18 Executive Council transitioned roles and responsibilities to our current FY19 Council. We had a productive meeting, brainstorming ideas for the year to come. We’ll keep you posted of all our upcoming event through our mailing list (sign up on dallaswe.org, if you haven’t already) and through social media; connect with us via Facebook, TwitterLinkedIn, or Instagram.

Before I talk about the future, I want to thank every FY18 officer, committee chair, and committee member for their hard work and dedication to our Dallas SWE section. Your time and efforts ensured that FY18 was another successful year for Dallas SWE (read the FY18 Year in Review).

We’ve already kicked the year off with one of our longstanding STEM Outreach traditions, participating in Moon Day at the Frontiers of Flight Museum on July 21 (recap coming soon). Next month, the FY19 Dallas SWE Executive Council would love to meet-and-greet with our members at brunch on August 25th (details to follow)!

As a reminder, please renew your memberships for FY19, if you haven’t done so already. SWE membership is an affordable $100. As members, you’ll get free access to Dallas SWE events, amazing webinars, and the career center, as well as discounts to local and regional conferences, and so much more. Plus, you’ll be part of the largest network of women engineers (+40,000 members strong). Click here for a step by step guide on how to renew.

Lastly, if you’re looking for more ways to get involved in SWE, hone your leadership skills, or just do something new, we have a committee for you! We could use your help with planning and coordinating events, outreach activities, fundraising, awards, etc. Click here for a descriptions of committees and fill out the Committee Interest Survey. A Dallas SWE Officer will be in touch with you soon.

We look forward to seeing you at a future event!
