December 2019 Membership Social Event Recap

Dallas SWE’s December membership social was a time of artistic flair and celebration on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

As a celebration of not just the holidays but of all our amazing Dallas SWE members and their amazing accomplishments over the past year. The night started off with some social time as all our members were able to reconnect with each other but also, meet new members to our section. Before long, our lovely hosts at Sip ‘N Drip Paint Parties were ready to start our artistic endeavors. The energy in the air was palpable as everyone got excited to paint their interpretation of the Dallas Skyline.

Our hosts were gracious to cater to all levels of artistry and the welcoming atmosphere just made it all the easier to have fun, let loose and create some good wall art. It was surreal to take a moment and walk around to experience that various colors and perspectives. All the artists were able to walkaround and see the ideas coming fruition

The night did not go without a fun surprise! Two of our very own Dallas SWE members were recognized with awards for their hard work and creativity. We celebrated our President, Zaineb Ahmad, who received the SWE 2020 WE Local New ELiTE Award and our fundraising committee chair, Haley Barnes, who received the SWE 2020 WE Local Guiding StarAward. We are so proud and excited to have these ladies as a part of our section and enjoyed celebrating them during our social.

Overall, what a fun night it was!! Dallas SWE is so thankful to have such an involved, passionate bunch and is off to a great start celebrating the holiday season!

January 2020 Member of the Month: Haley Hannenberg

Congratulations to Haley Hannenberg, Dallas SWE’s January 2020 Member of the Month!

While now living in Dallas, Haley Hannenberg is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She received her Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Biomedical Specialization from Southern Methodist University. During her time at SMU Haley was actively involved in SWE serving as the membership chair, VP of External Affairs and President. She has continued to stay involved by most recently serving as a marketing chair for Design Your World and is part of the initiative to redesign the DYW website.

Haley also is committed to encouraging women in STEM at her workplace where she is an active member of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) team. Haley works for Medtronic as a Research and Development engineer on new product development and manages their summer WISE interns. Each year she works to select three interns who are either about to enter their first year in college or have just completed it and mentors them in what it is like to be an engineer. They earn professional engineering experience and Haley hopes that this program will encourage young women to stay in the STEM field!

SWE provides an unique opportunity to connect with the most passionate and driven female engineers across the country. Being able to learn from the experiences of others and together work on any challenges in our fields builds an unparalleled community of support that I consider myself extremely lucky to be a part of.
