On February 22, 2024, Southern Methodist University’s SWE section hosted their largest annual event event of the year: She Networks, She Wins! Every year, SMU SWE and SMU’s Hart Center for Engineering Leadership provide collegiates the opportunity to learn from engineering professionals in the DFW area. The event began with a networking session, which gave attendees the opportunity to speak with Dallas professionals from companies like AT&T, Credera, McCarthy, JP Morgan Chase, and LJA Engineering. After networking, students learned from a panel of remarkable women engineers about what it takes to be successful when making the transition from college to career.
Attendees shared great feedback from the event. Morgan Muir, a Dallas SWE attendee and former member of SMU Society of Women Engineers, recalls how the event shaped her professional career. “Obtaining professional exposure as a college student was key to my early career success. She Networks, She Wins helped me grow tremendously when I was a collegiate. It was so exciting to be on the other side of the event as a professional sharing my career experiences with college students.”
Overall, She Networks, She Wins was a success thanks to the SMU SWE Board, SNSW Sponsors (AT&T, Credera, McCarthy, JP Morgan Chase Co, LJA Engineering), and the event panelists (Tori Lynn of McCarthy, Therese Maher of JP Morgan Chase Co., Larissa Knapp-Scott of LJA Engineering, and Ping Gui – ECE Professor SMU). SMU SWE is so excited to continue providing opportunities for college students through this event in the future.
