Congratulations to Dallas SWE’s November Member of the Month: Daphne Jackson Hornbuckle!
Daphne Jackson Hornbuckle earned her B.S. in Computer Science from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY. She is the North Texas IT Manager for Charter Communications (formerly Time Warner Cable). For the past decade she has managed the Desktop Support team to provide technical and project support for the North Texas Region. She also oversees the development and implementation of the IT infrastructure for various business units. Prior to joining Time Warner Cable, Daphne owned her own IT consulting firm, Diamond Technology Group, LLC. The clients for this successful IT consulting firm included American Airlines and other Fortune 500 companies.
She has served the Dallas community as an IT professional and entrepreneur for 20 years. Her passion is only rivaled by her proven commitment to service. Through her leadership and vast IT career, she has been a tireless champion, working to steer young adults toward higher education and STEM fields. In 2007, Daphne led the efforts in establishing the Dorethea N. Hornbuckle Memorial Scholarship, under the umbrella of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., a business and professional women’s organization. This national scholarship, named after her late mother-in-law and the sorority’s Past National President, has been given to numerous deserving students majoring in the sciences. As a past President of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Psi Chapter, she provided leadership forums for young women and educational programs for young girls. Under her leadership, Psi Chapter contributed significantly to the Dallas/Fort Worth community. In 2016, she accepted the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce’s Connie Davis Rosborough Volunteer of the Year Award. During her four year term as President, she received the Outstanding Chapter President Awards on both regional and national levels from 2014-2017.
Daphne, a two-time breast cancer survivor, turned a life-threatening experience into hope for others. She organized the Celebrating Life Foundation’s breast cancer support group, The Victorious Ones. This group presented an open forum for breast cancer survivors to express their feelings, share information and provide encouragement. Due to her outreach, she received the Joanie Hatcher Inspirational Survivor of the Year Award and the Warrior Award. In 2016 and 2017, her outstanding community service achievements were recognized and celebrated as she was inducted into the Third and Fourth Editions of Who’s Who in Black Dallas.
Currently Daphne serves on the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Hofstra University’s Women in Leadership Advisory Board. She is a member of the Dallas Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Association of Parliamentarians and Women in Cable Telecommunications. In 2017, this Dallas SWE member was actively involved on the Design Your World (DYW) STEM Planning Committee. Not only has Daphne volunteered for the DYW, but over the years she has participated on the Programs Committee and Mentoring Program Task Force; she has volunteered for the Dallas Wings STEM Expo and the DISD STEM Expo; and so much more.
“As a member of Dallas SWE, I thoroughly enjoy working with and mentoring the young ladies to develop their passion in engineering and technology. The Design Your World STEM Conferences have been very successful. These conferences have inspired and empowered young ladies in many ways. It is truly wonderful to know you are making a difference in the lives of many.”
