On September 28th, Dallas SWE hosted a mindfulness social led by Sarah Sampson, Founder and Director at Art of the Circle, an organization that provides trainings and experiences based in Restorative Justice, Social-Emotional Learning, and Mindfulness. The social opened up with the Rose and Thorn sharing exercise, where everyone was invited to share about something going great, and something that isn’t. Then, Sarah shared several strategies that can be used to ground ourselves back to the present moment. There were several opportunities for each of us to share our experiences on different scenarios in our lives and how we utilize mindfulness to keep a positive perspective, like the “what-if” exercise, where instead of viewing the unknown as a negative, to see it as an opportunity. Below is how another one of the strategies, reframing, can be considered when looking at a circumstance from another perspective.
The session was highly engaging, and Dallas SWE would like to thank Sarah for curating the materials and developing such thoughtful exercises and content for us to connect with.
