These officer positions are held by volunteers with an interest in influencing the direction of our local professional section and serving our members in very important capacities. Without volunteer leaders there would be no Dallas SWE!
The Treasurer position is not available this year since we’re in the middle of the 2-year term.
Available elected officer positions include:
- President
- Vice President
- Vice President of Membership
- Vice President of Outreach
- Secretary
- 2 Section Representatives
- 1 Alternate Section Representative
- 1 Board of Trustees Member

Candidates must be voting members of the Society of Women Engineers and assigned to the Dallas Professional Section. To secure your spot on the ballot, just email dallas.swe@gmail.com and tell us which position you’re interested in filling for Fiscal Year 2015 (which runs July 2014 through June 2015). If you want to nominate someone other than yourself, the nominee must provide written consent to the nomination.
The deadline for nominations is 15 April, 2014 so don’t delay! After that, additional candidates may be nominated by petition which requires a minimum of two percent of voting members. Petitions must be submitted by 30 April, 2015. The electronic ballot will go out to members via email in May, so stay tuned to your inbox!
Dallas SWE Officer Positions and Responsibilities
The following information is per the SWE Dallas Professional Section Bylaws, approved April 2013.
President (1 year term):
- Represent the section before the public and preside at meetings of the section and its executive council.
- Appoint the chairs of all committees, with the approval of the executive council, except the chair of the nominating committee.
- Approve the appointment of all committee members, except the members of the nominating committee.
- Authorize the disbursement of section funds within the budget approved by the executive council.
- Be an authorized signatory on all section accounts.
- Coordinate activities and execute the business and policies of the section between meetings.
- Review and approve the year-end section financial report.
- Provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned.
- Perform other duties normally associated with the office of president or as may be assigned by the executive council or the governance documents.
Vice President (1 year term):
- Assume the duties of the president if the president is temporarily unable to serve.
- Arrange all meeting locations and programs.
- Provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
Vice President of Membership (1 year term):
- Welcome all new members.
- Recruit new members, retain members, and follow up with all lapse of membership.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
Vice President of Outreach (1 year term):
- Develop outreach plans and goals.
- Create, organize, and manage outreach events.
- Coordinate with volunteers and other organizations for events and speaker requests.
- Coordinate and manage the awards program: scholarship, certificate, and professional awards.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
Secretary (1 year term):
- Maintain the records of the section.
- Provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
2 Section Representatives (1 year term):
We have two section representatives this year since we have over 100 members!
Section Representatives serve on the Region C Council which is made up of Section Representatives from other Professional section in the region as well as two Region Collegiate Representatives. The following information is per the Region C Bylaws.
- Ensure the objectives and purposes of the region are pursued.
- Formulate region policy.
- Support the initiation and development of sections within the region.
- Approve the region budget by a majority of the region council members.
- Attend monthly Region Council meetings (conference calls and at Region/National conferences).
- Communicate region news to the Dallas SWE Executive Council.
- Complete quarterly Dallas SWE Section Reports.
Alternate Section Representative (1 year term):
- Perform the duties of Section Representative (see above) if a Section Representative is temporarily unable to serve.
Board of Trustees General Trustee Member (3 year term):
- Manage and invest funds agreed to with the SWE Dallas Executive Council.
- Generate an annual investment income Planning Report in March of each fiscal year.
- Attend a minimum of two BOT meetings per fiscal year.
